Company Overview

Theatre by the Bay is seeking an experienced and collaborative Production Manager for the Barrie Theatre Festival 2025, a professionally curated multi-show festival running August 7–17, 2025 at the Five Points Theatre, Downtown Barrie. This role is an exciting opportunity to lead the technical execution of a bold new cultural event that features six professional productions across 38 performances.

About the Festival

The Barrie Theatre Festival showcases six artist-led productions across three distinct series:

  • Young Audiences Series – Play Time
  • Central Ontario Series – No Plays Like Home
  • Canada-Wide Series – Well Played

The festival offers daily family programming and nightly double-bill performances. Companies arrive fully formed with their own teams and design packages. Theatre by the Bay provides shared tech infrastructure, front-of-house support, and festival-wide coordination.

Job Description

Contract Dates

July 10 – August 20, 2025 – (approximately 170 to 180 hours total)

(Pre-production (virtual), on-site coordination, and post-festival strike and reporting)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all technical and production logistics across six rotating productions
  • Coordinate venue scheduling, load-ins, cue-to-cue rehearsals, and tech days
  • Liaise with Five Points Theatre staff, venue technicians, and rental clients
  • Oversee smooth transitions between performances (four time slots daily)
  • Manage strike, venue reset, and artist/venue communication
  • Ensure safety, equity, and professionalism across all production teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or operational issues during the run
  • Maintain festival production documents and performance reports

You Are

  • A calm, clear, and organized technical leader
  • Experienced with festival or multi-show formats
  • Work in a virtual Microsoft Office environment
  • Comfortable communicating with both professional artists and emerging companies
  • Proficient in scheduling, conflict resolution, and technical problem-solving
  • Able to manage multiple production timelines in a high-paced environment
  • Familiar with venue operations, safety standards, and professional rehearsal processes
  • A collaborator who can lead with kindness and efficiency

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience in technical production or stage management
  • Experience working in black box or flexible venue environments
  • Strong scheduling, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in cue sheets, tech planning, and production documentation
  • Availability for full contract period including pre-festival and strike
  • Valid G license or ability to travel to Downtown Barrie daily
