Job Description

Who We Need

Following our successful Outfit the March capital campaign, we have acquired significant new equipment to support our productions. We are looking for an Equipment Manager to oversee, maintain, and coordinate the use of all new equipment across our productions, and to manage our growing rentals business and free loaning program. 

The Equipment Manager will report to our Director of Production, Tori Morrison. They may hire and oversee technicians to support their work. 

The Equipment Manager will mostly work on-site at the Outside the March office (258 Wallace Ave), our storage facilities (M8W), or production venues, though administrative work can be accomplished remotely. Some evening and weekend work may be required, depending on rental and production needs.

The contract will begin as soon as possible.



Roles & Responsibilities

The Equipment Manager will be responsible for the organization, maintenance, and deployment of all OtM’s equipment. This role is critical to ensuring productions and projects run smoothly and that all equipment is safe, functional, and properly inventoried. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing all aspects of equipment management after acquisition, including:

    • Ensuring safe casing, labelling, and storage

    • Creating and maintaining instruction and storage manuals

    • Performing maintenance and arranging for repairs, replacements, or upgrades as needed

    • Filing any insurance claims for damaged or missing equipment

  • Managing our portable Sound Booth

  • Coordinating with the Director of Production to arrange all equipment usage for OtM productions and events, ensuring safe handling, load-in, set-up, and strike 

  • Overseeing all aspects of equipment rentals/loans, including:

    • Maintaining rental system, including equipment catalogue, schedule, and budget and invoices.

    • Serving as primary point of contact for rental inquiries, bookings, and rentee support

    • Coordinating logistics for pickup and delivery and/or overseeing the hiring of technicians to coordinate

    • Confirm availability for future rentals, in collaboration with OtM Staff, 

    • Track progress of current rentals and provide notice/reminders for pickups and returns. 

  • Managing and organizing storage facilities, including:

    • Managing inventory systems

    • Conducting regular inventory

    • Sourcing low-cost long-term storage solutions

 

Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing and advanced understanding of technical equipment, especially lighting, sound, and video elements, in a performing arts setting

  • Experience with appropriate tools for repair/maintenance

  • Experience with contracts, invoices, or client relations

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to lift, move, and safely handle heavy equipment, within reason

  • Working-at-Heights certification

  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently

Must have a valid driver’s license. Access to a personal vehicle is preferred.

 

Compensation

This is a two-year independent contractor position. The Equipment Manager will work approximately 250 hours per year on a flexible schedule.
