Job Description

Cutter & First Hand

Reports to: Head of Wardrobe

Duties and Responsibilities may include multiple aspects of the following:

  • Provide your kit for sewing/cutting.
  • Cutting, assembling, altering costumes for all theatre productions under the guidance of the Head of Wardrobe and approval of the designer.
  • Supervision and delegation of work to the Stitchers, and part-time staff working in Wardrobe, so that work is completed properly and on schedule.  
  • Work in a cooperative and efficient manner.
  • Must have strong time management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Monitor stock and inform the Head of Wardrobe of required materials.
  • May be responsible for the handling and repair of wardrobe during the run of shows and may include show laundry.
  • Assist in the cleanliness of the Wardrobe Room.
  • From time to time, other related duties may be assigned as required.
  • Oversee and assist in the cleanliness of the Wardrobe Room.
  • Assist in monitoring stock and inform the Head of Wardrobe of required materials.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining wardrobe storage.
  • From time to time, other related duties may be assigned as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge and expertise in costume techniques and materials.
  • Ability to work independently and self-start tasks.
  • Works well directing and motivating others.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Cutter.
  • Previous work experience as a First Hand would be considered an asset.

Term: Contract; immediate start and ending May 3, 2026. Typically 40 hours per week.
