Presentation House Theatre (PHT) is the North Shore’s hub for professional theatre and performing arts. Located on Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Slílwta/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Territories, in the heart of North Vancouver, PHT produces and presents professional theatre for children, youth and adults; engages in vital community projects through artist-led outreach experiences; and provides mentorship and development opportunities through the PHT Creative Hub. 

A typical season at PHT includes mainstage productions, presentations, touring, a small series of professional music and dance, and the hosting of several local arts groups. We average 60+ events throughout the year. In addition, we proudly act as an incubator space for the development of new works.

Job Description

The Technical Facilities Manager is the lynchpin of Presentation House Theatre’s venue, acting as the touchpoint for renters, artists and staff on all matters relating to the building. Reporting directly to the Artistic Managing Director, the Technical Facilities Manager is responsible for the smooth operations of all facilities and equipment, managing rentals, overseeing part time and casual technical staff and supporting core artistic activity by creating a welcoming, safe and artistically productive environment for all users. This is an ideal position for a candidate who is self-motivated, excited by a varied role that requires a diverse skillset and is inspired by the opportunity to be an advocate for the Presentation House Arts Centre.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities Management

  • Manage all rentals by preparing quotes, leading site visits, taking bookings, developing and maintaining a rental schedule and preparing invoices for renters;

  • Orient facility renters and guest companies to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations;

  • Have a good working knowledge of the alarm and fire safety systems;

  • Manage the maintenance and cleaning of the building including the Anne MacDonald Studio and grounds in collaboration with JanPro;

  • Support the Artistic Managing Director and Operations Manager to work with the City of North Vancouver to coordinate preventative maintenance for the building;

  • Be the point of contact for contractors, security company and Fire Department;

  • Demonstrate leadership in the development of annual plans for capital purchases, refurbishments, and preventative maintenance in consultation with the Artistic Managing Director;

  • Advise Artistic Managing Director and Operations Manager on annual facility budget and work within that budget while ensuring the safe running of the facility.

Technical Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Artistic Managing Director and Producer to facilitate productions in all areas related to design, staging, and execution of the artistic vision for the plays and programming at Presentation House Theatre;

  • Advising the Artistic Managing Director and Producer on production budgets and ensuring technical staff, design and other production elements stay within budget; 

  • Work collaboratively with the Artistic Managing Director, Producer and production teams to support, execute and troubleshoot all elements of production and other programming at PHT;

  • Develop an annual preventative maintenance plan for the theatre, Anne MacDonald Studio, and specialized equipment list ensuring the longevity and working condition of all facility spaces and equipment, being mindful of the approved budget for all labour, repair and maintenance costs;

  • Monitor the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment in collaboration with the Head Technician;

  • Arrange to have preventative maintenance on all specialized theatre equipment, working within the budgetary constraints of the overall season budget;

  • Update and maintain technical specifications and equipment lists for all venues;

  • Assess potential programming for technical needs and suitability to the venues;

  • Coordinate and attend all production meetings;

  • Ensure venues are clean and ready for artists, including ensuring technical needs are met;

  • Lead technical calls for PHT programming;

  • Act as the immediate supervisor to part-time and casual contract Technicians;

  • Schedule and book crew;

  • Have a working knowledge of theatrical technical systems (lights, sound and projection) in the Theatre, Weaving Room and Studio;

  • Lead or Assist on crew calls and riser change overs when needed;

  • Read and manage show reports from rentals and productions;

  • Manage multiple projects on finite timelines;

  • Act as an ambassador for Presentation House Theatre when dealing with rentals, co-productions, presentation, and volunteers.

Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience in venue management, rentals or production management;

  • Working knowledge theatre equipment including lighting, sound and projection equipment;

  • A passion for supporting artistic creation with technical expertise and care for artists and their work; 

  • Strong leadership and management skills;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Self-motivated with a high capacity for collaboration.
