Job Description

Weare currently seeking a collaborative,resourceful and detail-attentive Technical Coordinator to assist the Manager, Technical Production in delivering technical solutions that successfully support the programs, events and activities that animate our 10-acre campus and engage our audiences and communities. 

 

Position Title: Technical Coordinator

Department: Event Operations

Reporting To: Manager, Technical Production

Number of Vacancies: 1

Type of Employment: Full-time

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, with a work schedule that can include weekend and evening hours based on production and operational need. Due to nature of our live events, hours of work will exceed the regular 35-hour work week during busy peak programming times

Compensation: Annual salary of $58,000 – $63,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package

Work Location: On site, at our lakeside campus in downtown Toronto

 

Duties

Technical Operations & Maintenance

• Oversee the operation, maintenance and safeguarding of all technical assets, including lighting, sound, video, and staging.
• Coordinate equipment repairs and supervise load-ins/load-outs.
• Determine technical requirements (audio, lighting, video, staging, special needs, etc.) for various venues and obtain competitive equipment rental quotes as needed.
• Maintain the Artifax event management database and manage technician payroll spreadsheets.

Team Coordination & Safety

• Supervise union technicians ensuring adherence to schedules and collective agreement terms regarding breaks and hours.
• Facilitate safety orientations for clients, visiting productions, and staff.
• Ensure that all work complies with Health and Safety requirements, WHMIS, and Ontario Ministry of Labour guidelines.
• Liaise with Site Operations and Grounds departments to ensure safe site operations during festivals.

 Requirements 
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficient in methods for theatre, dance, and music production, including stage carpentry and computerized lighting systems.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), various show systems software (Dante, QLab, offline console software for ETC, Midas, and Yamaha), and familiarity with both Windows and Mac OS.
  • Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a “can-do” attitude, and the ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Assets: Experience with IATSE union crews, Artifax, AutoCAD/VectorWorks, and valid certificates for Elevated Platform, Forklift, or Working at Heights.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, in various outdoor weather conditions.
  • Physical requirements include working at heights above 8 feet and standing/walking for extended periods in high-noise environments.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada on a full-time ongoing basis.
  • This role is on-site based at our lakeside campus in downtown Toronto.
