Manitoba Theatre for Young People is one of the largest theatres for young audiences in Canada and plays a leading role in theatre in the country. MTYP has the privilege of being located on Treaty 1 territory and the homeland of the Métis Nation, operating out of the first purpose- built facility for theatre for young audiences in Canada, situated at the Forks in Winnipeg. Known for its new works and commitment to creation, MTYP is also a hub for touring companies from across Canada and around the world and itself tours for 15- 19 weeks each year. In addition to its productions, presentations, and touring, MTYP Theatre School enjoys the participation of 1,600 students annually in activities at its facility and through robust outreach programming at numerous locations throughout the province.

Job Description

Manitoba Theatre for Young People is seeking a dynamic, customer service oriented individual as a School Sales Coordinator. This full-time position is responsible for all customer service and administration related to sales of MTYP Season School Shows and Tour bookings and regularly contributes to delivery of general box office and Theatre School registration and administrative functions. The position also provides support to marketing and communications, plans initiatives as required, and is the main liaison with MTYP School Drama Outreach Coordinator for workshop bookings specific to clients for MTYP Season School Shows and Touring. Reporting to the Customer Service Manager, the School Sales Coordinator maintains a high level of customer service and strong relationships with schools, educators, day cares and other clients of the MTYP Season School Shows and Tours.

To be successful in this role, candidates should be outgoing, enjoy communicating with a wide variety of individuals by phone, email, and in person, and work well with moderate levels of supervision. Those who appreciate opportunities for collaboration with fellow team members and have a high capacity for organization and working within established project deadlines will do well in this role.

Additional required qualifications include:

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience in delivering a superior standard of customer service and/or sales functions.
  • Strong communicator and listener with excellent English written and oral communication.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology, including specialized databases; experience working with ticketing or fund development software will be considered a strong asset.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities concurrently, with the ability to produce high-quality work on a deadline.

The following would be further assets to bring to this role, but are not required:

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and analytically and capacity for problem solving.
  • Ease with working both independently and in a team environment.
  • Conversational French language skills.

This is a full-time, permanent position. The hiring salary for this role is $36,000. The compensation package also includes an opportunity to participate in the MTYP health plan (pending eligibility as determined by the provider), matching RSP program, and 15 days of vacation, accrued annually. Standard hours of work are 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday, however some evening and occasional weekend work may also be required throughout the season.
