Job Description

The Belfry Theatre is currently seeking submissions from qualified theatre professionals for the following position: Scenic Painter 

 

Reporting to the Director of Production and Operations, the Scenic Painter will be expected to manage and execute set painting for the Theatre’s production of Women of the Fur Trade, written by Frances Koncan and to be directed by Kat MacLean.  

 

While under contract the day-to-day duties will include, but won’t be limited to working with the set designer, liaising with relevant departments to ensure communication of production needs, and working “hands on” in the execution of paint treatments.   

 

The successful candidate should be able to work independently as well as having the ability to work collaboratively and lead in a team environment.  

 

Qualifications: 

  • Strong experience in scenic painting in a professional performing arts organization 

  • A broad range of experience and knowledge of theatrical painting techniques  

  • Must have strong time management, organizational, interpersonal,and communication skills 

  • Experience supervising a small team of painters 

  • Proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and internet research 

  • Able to endure the physical work typical in scenic painting including ladder work, lifting paint cans, and working on the floor 

 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Coordinate directly with set designer and produce samples for paint treatments 

  • Identify need for additional support from a casual hire crew 

  • Paint scenic elements and other properties 


This is a Temporary Contract position starting August 4 and ending on August 30, 2026; weekly salary based on $33.00 per hour and overtime is to be expected.  The Theatre will provide travel and accommodations during the employment period.
